Summary

Karto lets you buy and redeem gift cards from Iraqi merchants. Use the app for its intended purpose, respect the merchants and other users, and we'll take care of the rest.

01Agreement to terms

By creating a Karto account or using the Karto app or website (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). These Terms form a binding contract between you and Karto Technology FZ-LLC, registered in Baghdad, Iraq ("Karto," "we," "us"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

02Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Karto, and at least 18 to purchase gift cards above IQD 100,000. You must have a working Iraqi mobile number registered in your name. By using the Service, you represent that the information you provide is true, complete, and current.

03Your account

You are responsible for everything that happens on your account, including all purchases made through it. Keep your device locked, your phone number secure, and report suspicious activity to support@karto.me immediately. Karto may suspend or close accounts that we reasonably believe are being used fraudulently or in violation of these Terms.

04Gift cards

  • Karto gift cards are issued by the participating merchant. Karto is the distribution platform.
  • Gift cards have no cash value outside of the issuing merchant. They cannot be exchanged for cash, except where required by law.
  • Cards are redeemable only at the issuing merchant, in the currency shown (IQD).
  • There is no expiry on Karto-issued gift cards for 36 months from the date of purchase. After 36 months, unused balance may be subject to a dormancy fee in line with Iraqi Consumer Protection Authority guidelines.
  • Lost or stolen cards can be recovered if you still have access to the account that received them. Cards transferred to a third party become that party's responsibility.

05Payments & refunds

Purchases are final. You may request a refund within 48 hours of purchase, provided the gift card has not been redeemed, viewed by the recipient, or otherwise used. Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 10 business days.

Karto uses third-party processors (Zain Cash, FastPay, Visa/Mastercard rails) to collect payment. We do not store full card numbers. Disputes about specific charges should go to your card issuer first; we will cooperate with any chargeback investigation in good faith.

06Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Karto to launder money, finance prohibited activities, or evade sanctions.
  • Buy gift cards with a payment method that is not yours.
  • Resell gift cards for profit outside Karto (we see this, and we will close the account).
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, or attempt to disrupt the Service.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity.
  • Use the Service in a way that violates Iraqi law or the laws of your jurisdiction.

07Merchant terms

If you list your brand on Karto as a merchant, a separate Merchant Agreement applies (available at support@karto.me). In summary: Karto takes a blended 8–15% commission on redeemed volume, settles weekly in IQD, and requires you to honor gift cards at face value just as you would cash.

08Intellectual property

Karto, the "K" mark, and all visual designs are trademarks of Karto Technology FZ-LLC. Merchant logos belong to their respective owners and are used with permission. You may not use Karto's branding to imply endorsement without our written consent.

09Liability

The Service is provided "as is." To the maximum extent allowed by Iraqi law, Karto's total liability to you for any claim related to the Service is limited to the total amount you paid to Karto in the 6 months before the claim arose. This does not limit our liability for intentional misconduct, gross negligence, or anything else that cannot be limited under Iraqi law.

10Disputes

If we have a disagreement, let's try to work it out by email first: support@karto.me. If we can't, any unresolved dispute will be settled by the Iraqi Commercial Court of Baghdad, under Iraqi law. Nothing in these Terms prevents consumers from bringing a claim before the Iraqi Consumer Protection Authority.

11Termination

You can close your Karto account at any time (Settings → Account → Close). We can suspend or close accounts for material breach of these Terms, for regulatory reasons, or if continued service would expose Karto or its users to unacceptable risk. Outstanding unredeemed gift cards remain valid per §4 even if an account is closed.

12Changes

We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes will be posted with a new version number and summary, and notified to active users at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of Karto after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
